Bluffton, SC Chiropractor, Dr. Patricia Zientek Uses Active Release Techniques (ART®) to Relieve Tight Muscles and Reduce Joint Stress or Muscle Pains
Active Release Techniques (ART®) in Bluffton, SC: Active Release Techniques (ART®) is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based technique that treats both acute and chronic conditions. It treats problems that occur in muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Bluffton Chiropractor, Dr. Patricia Zientek provides ART® to her patients to address pain and problems that arise from overused muscles quickly and effectively. Most soft tissue injuries are due to overuse. Overused muscles can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue that binds up and ties down tissues that should move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness and weakness.
Dr. Patti is a Certified Active Release Techniques Provider and Instructor
Dr. Patti is uniquely proficient in ART® as both a provider and instructor. Only a credentialed ART® provider can determine whether ART® might prove beneficial for a patient’s condition. It takes approximately two years of working with patients to become proficient in ART® once a provider has taken the appropriate courses and passed the required examinations. Dr. Patti and all other ART® providers must attend annual update seminars to maintain their credentialed status. This also allows them to keep up-to-date with any new research and protocols.
Active Release Technique Provided by Dr. Patti
Pain and tightness is usually the result of overused muscles in many patients. Overuse contributes to scar tissue formation, pulls, strains, tears and inflammation. ART® targets connective tissues, major muscle groups, ligaments and tendons. This natural treatment restores normal mobility between muscular tissue and nerves.
The patient performs active motion of a body part while Dr. Patti applies a specific tension at the site of tissue dysfunction. The goal of this is to:
- Restore the gliding mechanics between adjacent structures back to normal
- Release entrapped nerves
- Restore muscle elasticity and contractility back to normal
Common Conditions that Are Managed with Active Release Techniques by Dr. Patti Zientek
Conditions normally treated with ART® are common yet very diverse. Some of these conditions are the following:
Active Release Technique Helps to Decrease Joint Stress and Muscle Tension
ART® incorporates similar techniques to deep tissue massage and myofascial release because it works by manipulating soft tissue. This soft tissue manipulation reduces stress placed on a patient’s joints and nerves. Many patients begin to feel relief after just a few ART® sessions with Dr. Patti as the inflammation and tension in the body begins to decrease.
The goal of ART® is to restore optimal soft tissue motion and function in addition to releasing any entrapped nerves or blood vessels. This is accomplished through the removal of adhesions or fibrosis in the soft tissues by applying certain protocols. Adhesions can occur as a result of acute injury, repetitive motion and constant pressure or tension. ART® eliminates the pain and dysfunction associated with these adhesions.
